Pablo Alcalá

I have been a staff photographer at the Lexington Herald-Leader since
2001. I cover news, sports, politics, and most anything you would see a photo of in the paper. Being somewhat fluent in Spanish, I also cover immigration.

Before the start of the Iraq War,I was embedded with the First Marine Division and traveled with an infantry battalion for nearly two months from the Kuwait border to Baghdad where they occupied what is now Sadr City.

I am originally from the Rio Grande Valley of south Texas.

I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1997 with a bachelor's of journalism in photojournalism.

Before graduating, I interned at the Indiana-based Bloomington Herald-Times, the Santa Fe New Mexican, and the Palm Beach Post.

After college, I accepted a two-year internship with Knight Ridder, working at The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Fort Worth Star-Telegram. His first job was at the Vero Beach Press-Journal in Florida.

I live in Lexington with my wife,
Jennifer.
